India will not play a bilateral
series with us, said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan on
Wednesday.
The two neighbors were scheduled to play a short bilateral series
involving three 50-over matches and a couple of T20Is in Sri Lanka later this
month.
The buzz was high and there were expectations for the series to go ahead
after a meeting of foreign ministers of both India and Pakistan – Sushma Swaraj
and Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad on Tuesday.
India’s decision not to play the
series will come as a blow for the Pakistan Cricket Board. Pakistan’s
cricket-loving Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given a green signal to the tour
last month, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not get an
approval from New Delhi.
